How much does this little trip to fleet week and a tour of the lower Hudson cost?

I'm sure we all remember the Simpson's episode where Homer crashed his car after a drunken binge. While not condoning drunken driving (stay sober kids!) I liked his idea of shopping around for a deal on a new car (he actually totalled his own and his wife's car in the same accident). Before settling on a gas sucking SUV that could be used as a snowplow (MR.Plow) he talked to a representative about an ethanol powered car. Homer's idea was that he could fill his car and (ethanol being also known as alcohol) fill himself at the same time...back to the drunk driving.

Make no mistake, ethanol is going to be the short term fix to bothglobal warming and making people who hate us rich. Ethanol will make millionaires in the midwest. I have already told you of my beligerance toward SUV drivers, they are supporting Islamo-terrorist organizations therefore they are unpatriotic, no, traitors!!!!

If these people want to become Americans again then they should support American industry by buying American, both vehicle and fuel.

Some points he raises in his new book the name of which I refuse to quote here in case there is the slightest possibility of him selling one more copy.

Minimum wage is fine where it is. Raising it will mean people will lose jobs because employers can't afford to pay someone $6.00 per hour. According to John, "minimum wage jobs are an oppurtunity."
First of all, any employer paying $6.00 per hour better be a hamburger store (who damn well can afford to pay their employees much more) or hiring illegal immigrants. Either way they are not laying off workers even if the minimum wage goes to $10.00 per hour. Raising the minimum wage is GOOD for the economy. People earning this amount of money do not spend it on French pefume, Italian sportscars or Russian prostitutes. No, these people use their pay to pay ConEd, gasoline for their car (or comutation fares), food for themselves and their children and HEALTHCARE. Boy John you really like to screw the little guys, the battling families don't you. Workers earning minimum wage often do not recieve health benefits from their employer so a substantial amount of their pay goes to making sure they are well.

Second hand smoke doesn't kill anyone. I guess all of the studies by those guys in white lab coats must be bullshit. I wonder why they would make up their results?

Sweat shops are a great oppurtunity for people overseas. This one I can't even comment on.

Gasoline is cheap. Actually on this he is correct. Compare to Europe gasoline is 50 to 80% cheaper here. But then again John, gasoline in Venezuela costs 12c per gallon. So I guees you are partly right and mostly wrong.

I guess gasoline is cheap for people like John Stossel who are given car service by their employer and who earns a sizable salary, gets health benefits and doesn't haveto worry about his kids dying from second hand smoke. Then again the really lucky people are those minimum wage workers who spend 50% of their wage paying for gasto get themselves to an 'oppurtunity.'

Heroin should be legalized. We really have a problem with drugs and kids getting their hands on meth, crack, coke, etc. Sure, legalise pot, but heroin????? Are you a drug dealer John?

Outsourcing is good for America because it creates better jobs here. I would recommend that you never visit my friend Alan Pittman in Rochester NY John. He will rip that 'stache off of your face and feed it to you with a side order of your eyeballs for saying that. Alan worked 26 years for the GM plant in Rochester. He was retrenched when his factory was closed and sent to Mexico along with 50,000 other jobs. His great new job John? Picking golf balls on a driving range. How is a 55 year old man who has lived in Rochester NY his whole life and who has a high school diploma (thats all you needed to get a good paying job under the Nixon administration) supposed to find this mythical 'better job?' Who wants to hire a 55 year old when the plant let go thousands of men and women decades younger than Alan?

Now I am really pissed off!!!!!! The goddamned commies running the State have decided that they will cap the state sales tax on fuel. Wow, wonderful you think...NO ITS FUCKING NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

The tax cap will be halted at 8 cents per gallon or about $1.20 per tank of fuel for the average family car.

Thats not soooooo bad Condor, what's your beef? My beef is that if $1.20 is going to break you every time you fill your tank then you shouldn't be driving! This tax cap helps no-one except politicians. What happens in 6 months time when gas is even higher than it is now? If we are paying $4.00 per gallon in November and the state realizes it needs the income from gas sales tax, what then?

No Albany, this time you have really screwed up! You have tried to help the little guy, the family battling to survive...the battlers, and all you have done is help the jerk who gets 3 miles per gallon in his penis extending (in his mind only) SUV!

Want to help Albany? Try spending the money you would have raisedon implementing alternative fuel types. Ethanol makes sense in the short term and does not cost alot to install the equipment necessary to provide vehicles fueling pumps. If the indusrty is correct then each ethanol pump costs approximately $200,000 to install. ALBANY, SPEND THE GAS TAX ON HELPING TO INSTALL THESE PUMPS!!!!!

Ethanol is a great short term fix to soaring crude prices. Best of all, ethanol can be made from rotting oranges, corn, sugar, potato's or anything that can be fermented. Two other benefits, it is made here in the US and our reliance on Saudi, Iranian and Iraqi oil is G O N E and ethanol is much more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels.

So Albany, put the tax back and spend the bucks on something worthwhile, not the jerk who drives the penismobile in the picture!

Its an interesting idea to run out a little, go long and I'll throw out a spiral.

1. CSA had no (or very little) industry whereas the North was already one of the most industrialised areas of the world. Obviously, the CSA would have had to play catch up but to be honest most of he southern population worked on small farms. Sure with the invention of the gin mill blacks/slaves would have probably fond work in the factories. Interestingly this may have eventually led to higher pay for the sothern black population as they learn skills and the white population stayed on the farms.

2. A conflict would have been inevitible as both countries grew into the western states.

3. A succession of southerners would never have become President of the USA. Imagine a country in which neither George Bush could be elected, no Reagan, no Newt Gingrich (what kind of parent names their kid Newt?) no bullshit.

What a country this could have been. When I see the retarded cowboy from Connecticut I have to wonder, who actually won the Civil War?

For all of the stink that politics creates in the nations capital, Washington D.C. is a magnificent city. The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most spectacular places it has been my privilege to lay eyes upon. I'm sure those who have laid eyes upon the Taj Mahal will yawn but I am blown away. As you climb the steps to the monument, Lincolns eyes are looking down upon you, almost judging you. 'Are you worthy of being in my presence' is the feeling I had as I climbed to his feet.

Many will say that Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, etc are the fathers of your nation but I disagree. Lincoln watched as half of the nation become the Confederate States of America (C.S.A.) and secede from the union. Only his determination and will power were able to reunite the house that stood divided. Where would the United States of America be today if the C.S.A. were still around? I would argue that the USA would be in a far better place than the CSA. Lincoln would obviously disagree.

No, no, no! I do care that I'm missing the wonderful class taught by Micah. But I do have to attend a wedding at the Naval academy in Annapolis.

As you read this I will be barrelling down I-95, then some other roads that as of yet I'm not too sure of, to reach Annapolis. Since I'm not driving I will be sampling a few of Mr.Michael Busch's family brew. Well not really, most Budweiser/Busch products just don't do it for me. I recently attended an ecumenical congress on the westside of Manhattan. It was held at one of the more progressive churchs in New York, Opus 22. Among the topics discussed was the death of Rabbi Moses Teitelbaum of the Satmar Hasidic group, the world domination plans of Opus Dei, Catherine Skellys dog and many other relavent topics. The most important agreement to come from the conference was the general acceptance that the consumption of Belgian wheat beer is pretty damn enlightening and at two for the price of one a religious experience was had by all.

Turning away from politics for one day.

I come from a very long line of coal miners. I worked for 6 years at Clarence Colliery in the Western coal fields of New South Wales. Dirty, boring and dangerous are the 3 best words to describes the job. But three others might be comraderie, support and introspection. The people who work alongside you 1mile below ground are the only people who can be relied upon during times of trouble to save your life and get you to safety. Each relies on the other and a real bond forms.

I mention introspection or the ability to examine ones self or inspect the feelings, sensations and thoughts you create internally. When the news comes of the inevitible accident at any mine I become quite introspective. Every miner has thought 'what if it is me next time?' Luckily, I have seen fingers ripped off of hands, backs broken, jaws smashed, hands mangled, lives ruined and thought to myself 'thank christ it isn't me.'

So, my thoughts go to the two trapped gold miners (IN THE PICTURE ABOVE) in Tasmania. Trapped slightly less than 3000 feet below the earth and who will remain there until Saturday at the earliest.

Coming home on MetroNorth from class on Wednesday evening andI saw the Americans I thought I would meet before I came to America. A little boy, maybe 2nd or 3rd grade, was travelling with who I assume was his older brother. The train (probably because of the $72.89 per gallon gas prices) was packed and the boys were sitting next to me on the floor where I was standing. The little guy pulled out his homework and started to do his math. About 10 minutes in and he was struggling and looked to his big brother to give him a helping hand. Unfortunately, big bro' was no assistance at all...then the real America stepped in. A man dressed in a suit and reading the Wallstreet Journal bent over and helped the little guy out with the tough question. Next question same result except another man lent a helping hand. In all about 90% of this boys homework was worked out by 6 or 7 total strangers and I have to admit i was pretty impressed that so many people were willing to help this little guy with his problems. This is the America I was impressed with when I was a child growing up in Scotland and Australia. The America that would happily reach out and help the little guy.

I Ride The Rails

One benefit of catching MetroNorth to class three times per week is the rail journey along the majestic Hudson River. Those lucky (this kind of lucky) enough to have waterfront property may take this for granted but it is truly spectacular to travel 30 or so miles south along it.

However, I worry about the Hudson line because of global warming. What has global warming got to do with a river?????? The Hudson is effected by tides, it is estuarial. When the tide rises out past the Verazano straights, water backs up for over 100 miles upstream. What all this means is that as global warming melts more and more of the worlds glaciers and icecaps and as the oceans of the world warm up and expand they will combine to form a giant liquid dam. This dam will cause increasing amounts of water to back up the Hudson.

The most appealling part of the Hudson line train service is that the train literally rides inches above the mean waterline. So one day as I'm heading down the line to the incredible Micah Sifrey University my train will be terminally delayed due to water covering the tracks.

Just running through the family finances for the month when I came across the figure 'commutation.' Besides the $100 per month for train tickets to get to school, my wife and me spend roughly $325 per month on gasoline. Yes, gas, petrol, fuel, go-go juice - call it whatever you want but holy shit its expensive! And it maybe because of the holy shit that it its so expensive, the whole Iran hating Israel and developing nuclear weapons has the boys down at 1 North End Avenue nervous.

But I really don't care why gas is $3.10 per gallon today, I just want it back to $1.10! Of course ex-CEO of Exxon Mobil doesn't really care about the price of gas. After years of happily gouging us at the gas pump he has cashed in his chips and taken a golden parachute to the tune of $400 million! Now we see why gas is so friggin high...its to pay off this jerk!

Since I received a polite if somewhat bland and non-commited letter from my representative, I thought i'd write back:

Representative Kelly i am aware of your need to remain neutral in your comments on Indian Point especially in consideration of the number of jobs that could be lost if or when the plant is closed. I am also keenly aware of the political power wielded by the nuclear energy industry that can be a great aid in a re-election campaign or a great hindrance if you are facing an opponent with their backing. However, I am concerned with the lack of pro-active language in your reply and resorting to non-committing rhetoric.

Having recently completed a year long comprehensive study of the safety record of Indian Point, demographic attributes of the area surrounding the plant and the inadequacies of emergency evacuation plans, I have come to the conclusion that Indian Point must be closed.

Under ideal conditions and a major unexpected action at Indian Point, an area from New York City to Boston could become uninhabitable for 80,000 years. "It couldn't happen here..." That is what the technicians said hours before 3 Mile Island nearly irradiated much of the Eastern seaboard.

You Ms. Kelly are the representative for the people of New York's 19Th Congressional district and the people of this district expect that you will do your utmost to ensure their safety. You are running out of time to choose your position, are you with the people or are you supporting the nuclear industry? It will soon become evident that you can't sit on the fence nor have a foot in both camps.

As an avid on-line political blogger I will be posting your correspondence on my own blog as well as forwarding it to several dozen highly frequented blogs. We all will be waiting to see how quickly you choose your position.

I'm getting a little worried about one of my neighbors. I was under the impression that Native Americans had been herded into reservations out in the plain states or systematically 'cleansed' by heroes such as George Custer. However, here I sit looking at the ethereal glow coming from 2 miles down the Hudson River the Bejesus is scared out of me. The testing of the 'accident' sirens has my adrenal gland pumping just as I'm sure the beating of drums raised the hair of early pioneers in the west.

So, being a 'pro-active' kind of demi-god, I did what all of you mortals would do, I sent a letter to my Congressional Representative. Sue Kelly is George Bush's man in my neck of the woods, yup she is a Republican.

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about Indian
Point.

My top focus on Indian Point will always be the safety of our
communities. I'm working hard to press the federal government
to do everything it possibly can to protect public safety.

Following a tour of the plant earlier this year, I called for the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to conduct a thorough
Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) at Indian Point. While I saw
some promising examples of progress at the plant, I believe a
detailed safety appraisal will better assure us that potential
problems at the aging plant are identified and corrected before they
present a risk to the public. I was joined in my call for an ISA in
February by other members of the area's Congressional delegation,
and we will continue to urge the NRC to provide us with the safety
assurances that we deserve. I'm also pressing the NRC and the
EPA for answers about how the spent fuel pool leak will be
stopped and how its contaminants will be cleaned up.

We also have to keep working to improve the emergency plans for
Indian Point. On March 22nd, I brought the Department of
Homeland Security and the NRC to the Town of Cortlandt to meet
with state and local officials so that federal officials would better
understand our deep concerns with the current emergency plans.
As you probably know, FEMA has continued to certify the
emergency plans despite the problems identified by the Witt
Report and despite opposition from New York state and the
executives from Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties. The
meeting was an important step in trying to resolve our long-
standing local concerns, but we still have a long ways to go. We
received commitments from participants to conduct another
summit later this year.

Please know that I remain focused on doing everything I possibly
can to make sure that Indian Point is run as safe as possible and
ensure that the surrounding communities have the resources they
need for emergency preparedness.

Now there will be those out there who will decry this as a 'socialist' move or being against the best interest of the French nation. I ask them:

How is it against the nations interest when 5% of the population were actively opposing the introduction of the law? 3 million French marched, set fire to cars and generally had a great time.

Putting this in perspective, to match the same rate of participation in the U.S. would require 15 million protesters.

A fellow colleague of mine (by the way, only one n in damnation Catherine)has recently poured scorn on the curent youth rioting in France. For an American to comment on the French is funny but when it comes from a corporate schill it is hilarious! Few Americans an possibly hope to understand the French mentality and I expect no one who works in the financial sector to understand the French mentality of:

I work to live, not live to work.

In France this and this, some of this, lots of this leads to this. To the French this, this and especially this leads to an early one of these.

The French do not care about investment from overseas, they are one of the largest investors in companies around the globe. Overall they have the 6th largest economy in the world. In 2003 France sunk more investment into America than any other country except Great Britain. Do they care if American cash doesn't flow their way?

Who is really angry about youth riots in France? Seemingly not the French.

It would seem that 'the hammer' will pound no more. After years of fine service in the United States Congress, Representative Thomas Dale Delay (R-TX) has decided to hang up his spurs. Delay has served the people of Texas's 22nd Congressional district since 1986. Perhaps he should have remembered the old adage "those who live by the hammer, get hammered by those who he hammered." He was tagged as 'the hammer' because of his continual pounding on the political opposition be they recalcitrant Republicans or 'evil' Democrats.

"...and with this good sword,

Ever read Julius Caesar? Cassius is the power behind the assassination of Caesar; "A shrewd opportunist, he proves successful but lacks integrity." Hmm, who does this sound like? And like Cassius, 'the hammer' didn't have the 'ferocitas' or courage to throw himself on his own sword (as Brutus did) on defeat. No Cassius had his slave disembowel him while it seems several Republicans have lined up to aid the hammer's speedy demise.

Just a quick update.

We all laugh at 'The Far Side' cartoons and 'Garfield' etc. But we all realize that there are no 'dobbi-o-matics' or lasagne eating giant orange cats. So why the hubbub over the Mohammed cartoon?

Over the last few weeks We have seen upset Muslims burning every Danish embassy they can get their hands on. Along with the violent reaction we have also watchedhundreds of thousands of peaceful Muslims marching all across the Muslim world. SO????

Today, 17th February, we watch as a huge Muslim rally decends upon Manhattan....well we would have except the weather was not co-operative. Yes, while their Muslim brothers are throwing Molatov cocktails around in the Middle East, American muslims are staying home today because they are afraid of getting wet! The expected 2000 pissed off Muslims has apparently dwindled to 35 soggy Doner Kebab vendors who were set to make a few images of G.Washington by feeding their hungry bretheren. Looks like the war on Tabouli and Hummos continues!

5 RELATIVELY UNKNOWN FACTS ABOUT SENATOR STEVENS

As part of the blogosphere I have made some contacts in Washington who have been able to give me some background on Ted Stevens. Few people are able to bring this type of information to you....but I will.

1.) If you wake up in the morning it is because Ted Stevens lets you wake up.

2.) 1.6 Billion Chinese people are at war with Senator Stevens. Washington insiders see this as an unfair fight...the Chinese need another 100 million or so to even it up.

3.) When the boogie man goes to bed at night he checks the closet for Ted Stevens.

4.)The honorable gentleman from Alaska once won a game of Rock, paper, Scissors using neither Rock, Paper or Scissors.

5.)When Jesus died it took him 3 days to return from his grave, it took Ted less than an hour...he's done this twice.

Congratulations Hamas!!!!!!! Once a zany group of clowns who attended childrens party's, made balloon animals, let kids play with baby camels and blew up Israeli's...well no more! Like all middle aged hippies they wised up and realized that money and not spiritualism makes the world go around. So, like those hippies from the Woodstock era, Hamas has put their followers in suits and ties and sent them into the real world to earn an honest living, well as honest as a life in politics can be.
Like their Woodstock era pals, Hamas has realized that the really big money in this crazy world is to be made by sucking it out of the United States treasury. Thats right, the folks who once felt at home driving in a car bomb are now at home in new Mercedes S-Class mega-limo's! Boy did these guys smarten up in a hurry!
Of course there has to be a catch. The bad boy from Texas finds himself in somewhat of a quandry. The United States does not fund terrorist organisations and for some reason Hamas is listed among terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda (Worldwide), G.O.P. (Congress), Nationalist Liberation Army (Columbia), E.T.A. (Spain), R.N.C. (Whitehouse), I.R.A. (Paddy's Ale House), among others. The big problem is with Congress who aren't really in a giving mood to most of these groups after the disaster of the Tom Delay scandal. (Did he actually think he could redistrict part of Texas into Cuba?) Add to this the plot by the Jack Abramoff to sell most of central U.S. to K.A.O.S. (luckily foiled by "Smart" people.)
Unfortunately, if the United States stops sending $400 million per year to stabilize the Palestinian Authority and keep thousands of Palestinians employed there could be a run on the Jerusalem tabouli market. This of course would cause a domino effect worldwide with futures in the falafel, hommus, gyro and souvlaki sectors being adversely affected. A run on these sectors must inevitibly lead to a strain on the world weiner supply. No bucks = No Dirty Dogs.
Luckily I have been thinking about this problem and I am happy to offer my solution to the President. Mr.Bush can keep the aid flowing but not as "aid" per say. Instead he can claim he is funding a "faith based initiative." This will keep Palestinians and his conservative religious based happy.

Welcome to The Ted Stevens Appreciation Society. You know, once in a while a special character comes along who is truly worth making that extra effort for, Senator Ted Stevens is one such character.

As the weeks roll along we will discuss Ted and his hilarious hijinks along with many other things. Politics will be the overwhelming core of the blog but every topic from atheism to Zebra buggering will be covered. (Yes I said Zebra buggering.) Feel free to express yourself in any way, language, explitive, death threat, excrement, spital, sputum, etc.

My hope is that I will piss you off, enlighten you, make you laugh, make you cry but mainly just piss you off.

Elvis? What has he got to do with Ted Stevens? Maybe he got his groove on to create Ted Jr.? (More on the Stevens offspring later) No Elvis has little to do with Ted or TSAS. On Wednesday afternoons I would cut school sports and head to a nearby club to play some pool. Pool was popular because it was much easier than snooker. Of course being 18 and full of amber nectar we young bucks were always finding ways to outdo our buds. Some guys would take their pool cues and smack the guy making a shot so they would miss. Some guys would yell out "my turn to buy" just as someone was taking their shot. My big trick was to wait until my opponent had taken his pull back and was just starting his forward stroke. At this point I would point behind him and yell "Look!! Its Elvis!!!" This little trick invariably caused my opponent to turn his head and sy the memorable words "huh? Where?"

Well politicians are just like 18 years old pool jockeys. They are willing to yell "Look! Elvis!!!"at any time they want to distract voters, the media or just other politicians. Ecomomy hits the toilet "Look! Elvis!!" and we've invaded Iraq. $4 Trillion dollar budget "Look! Elvis!!!" and all of a sudden Gay marriage. I have to admit that they are much better at it than I ever was.

If only the Democrats could learn to use it....
